Maxi Laine’s Boutique Is Coming to Downtown Olathe
Downtown Olathe continues to gain momentum, and another locally owned business is joining the mix. Maxi Laine’s Boutique, founded by Olathe resident Melissa Wassergord, will open a second location in early 2026 at 108 W. Cedar St., just off Cedar and Cherry streets near Junque Drawer Boutique.
The space was previously home to Three T Baker’s, which has since relocated elsewhere in Olathe.
From Basement Startup to Brick-and-Mortar Growth
Maxi Laine’s began more than a decade ago as a passion project in Wassergord’s basement, where she created custom shirts and accessories. As demand grew, the brand expanded into pop-up events and eventually opened its first storefront on Black Friday 2023 at 14010 W. 135th St.
That original location will remain open through at least November 2026, when the current lease expires.
What Maxi Laine’s Is Known For
The boutique is best known for its Kansas City-themed apparel and accessories, including designs featuring:
Kansas City Chiefs
Kansas City Royals
University of Kansas Jayhawks
Kansas State University Wildcats
All designs and embroidered patches are created in-house and produced in small batches, keeping items limited and unique. In addition to sports apparel, the shop also carries women’s boutique clothing, including:
Dresses and skirts
Jeans and jumpsuits
Hats, accessories, and more
The name Maxi Laine’s is a family tribute, combining Wassergord’s grandmother’s first name, Maxine, with the middle name Laine, shared by both women.
Downtown Location & Hours
The new downtown storefront will be located at:
108 W. Cedar St.
Olathe, Kansas
When it opens, Maxi Laine’s downtown location will initially operate Thursday through Saturday, likely with hours similar to neighboring boutiques.
A Natural Fit for Downtown Olathe
For Wassergord, the move downtown is about more than expansion—it’s about connection.
She has noted how welcoming downtown business owners have been and looks forward to becoming part of the close-knit, walkable business community. The new location places Maxi Laine’s among a growing number of shops, restaurants, and local destinations helping shape downtown Olathe’s continued revitalization.
