Downtown Olathe Keeps Stacking Up Wins!
For the past few years, I’ve been writing about the steady momentum in the district — from infrastructure improvements to new restaurants to the kind of local energy that makes people want to linger instead of just drive through. And now, we’re adding something we haven’t really had yet:
An upscale cocktail lounge.
According to reporting from the The Kansas City Star, a new concept called The Office Lounge is coming to 110 Cherry Street, right in the heart of downtown.
And this one feels… different.
The Office Lounge will be located in the basement of 110 Cherry — an office building currently home to attorneys and therapists. Guests will enter the building and take the elevator down, with signage guiding the way.
I’ll say it: I love the concept already.
There’s something cool about a tucked-away, slightly hidden space. It gives it that low-key speakeasy feel without trying too hard.
Owner Brandon Blum describes it as “swanky,” with live music, a groovy environment, and high-end cocktails. But here’s where it gets interesting…
He plans to open around 3 p.m., intentionally leaning into the “office” theme. Think:
USB ports
Notepads
Even a printer
A place you could realistically bring your laptop and knock out a few emails
Then as the evening rolls on, the vibe shifts.
Open late — potentially until 2 a.m. on some nights — with live bands two to three times per week. That’s a meaningful addition for downtown Olathe, which has gained great dinner spots but hasn’t had many late-night, elevated drink environments.
High-End Cocktails + Small Plates
The focus will be on craft cocktails — described as high-end, hospitality-forward, and unique.
Menu plans include:
Charcuterie boards
Desserts
Small plates
Not a full dinner destination, but a before-dinner, after-dinner, or date-night spot.
And that matters.
For years, one of the knocks on downtown Olathe was that it lacked variety. Today? That narrative is quickly disappearing.
Downtown Olathe’s Momentum Is Real
Let’s zoom out for a second.
In addition to The Office Lounge, here’s what’s either open or coming soon:
Pizza 51 — Open inside the historic gas station at 200 S. Kansas Ave.
Third Street Social — Targeting late April or early May opening.
Char Bar — Planned for 200 W. Santa Fe.
Austin’s Bar & Grill — New rooftop concept coming via developer Lane4.
Fifth & Emery — Frozen yogurt addition in the same redevelopment.
That’s not a small list.
When I first started selling real estate in 2001, downtown Olathe looked very different. Today, it’s becoming a legitimate destination — not just for residents, but for people across Johnson County.
And here’s what I’m watching closely:
Upscale nightlife signals confidence.
It means developers believe people will stay downtown into the evening. It means date nights. It means post-dinner cocktails. It means small business owners believing in long-term foot traffic.
That’s a healthy sign.
What This Means for Homeowners and Buyers
As someone who spends a lot of time helping clients evaluate lifestyle, not just square footage, this is the kind of development that quietly boosts property desirability.
Walkable downtown energy
Dining variety
Live music
Late-night options
Unique gathering spaces
Those are the things that make historic districts thrive.

My Take
Will The Office Lounge work?
If it executes well — yes.
Downtown Olathe doesn’t need another sports bar. It needs a distinct experience. Something that feels intentional. Elevated. Memorable.
If Blum delivers on:
true high-end cocktails
real hospitality
consistent live music
and a vibe that feels different than anything else in the area
It fills a gap.
And based on the trajectory we’re seeing downtown, the timing couldn’t be better.
